How ShopperTrak Counts Traffic in Malls

ShopperTrak has determined that common area counts and total property counts give an appropriate picture of mall traffic.  The mall traffic data pool can be further enriched by adding mall interior counts and store counts to the mix.

Mall Common Area Counts

The aggregated total of mall visitors who enter the common mall area, either from mall entrances or anchor stores, is called Common Area Counts.

Mall Total Property Counts

Clearly, we would like a traffic number to use as a measurement of overall traffic entering the mall. Total property includes anchor store outer entrances, the mall outer entrances and any other store, shop or restaurant that provides access to the common area.

Mall Interior and Store Counts

Additional mall metrics can be easily obtained by placing Orbit sensors within the common area of the mall and the individual retail stores throughout the mall.
